Franz Ferdinand recently played four new songs on their tour in Limerick, Ireland. These are the first songs they have released since 2009 when they released their album Tonight. And they will be on their new album that will be coming out sometime during the summer.
If you have never head of Franz Ferdinand before, here's some background information to keep you current. They are a Scottish Band that originated in Glasgow (the largest city in Scotland). Alex Kapranos is the lead singer and guitarist. Bob Hardy strums the bass guitar. Nick McCarthy plays the rhythm guitar and keyboard and also sings background vocals. And last but not least, Paul Thomson sets the pace by playing the drums and percussion, while also singing background vocals.
The band's second single, and my favorite song by them, "Take Me Out," topped the UK charts at number three. After, their album titled Franz Ferdinand also reached number three on the UK charts. The band's second album You Could Have It So Much Better, made top ten on the Billboard 200 in the US and reached Platinum status. In the UK, the album topped the charts. After this achievement, their most recent album Tonight: Franz Ferdinand(they clearly have a knack for naming albums) was released in January 2009 and made top ten in the United Kingdom and the United States, so you can see why these songs might be a big deal. The band is internationally famed and has won many awards. This album is expected to attain the same success as the previous ones.

The songs sound really cool. While I can’t really make out the lyrics because of the poor audio, the actual music sounds great, and I can safely say that I am really looking forward to this album's arrival. This year is churning up a lot of great new alternative rock music from older favorites. For example, the Killers are releasing a new album later on in the year and Jack White recently released a new album. I am so excited to hear the bands' new songs. I can't wait to see what new rock music this year brings.

The Imagine Dragons does not only have an amazingly epic band name (which is an acronym for something unknown), but also really free-flowing, captivating music. I first heard the music on my radio. “It’s Time” was playing, and I really enjoyed that song so I went onto Spotify to listen to their other music. I developed a new found love for this creative band. So I will be reviewing some of their music and giving a little bit of info about the band itself. Enjoy!
The Imagine Dragons is an Alternative rock band from Las Vegas, Nevada in the US. Their musical inspiration is both life experiences and the city they live in. Viva Las Vegas! Their first gig was actually in a Las Vegas Casino. Since then they have come a long way, releasing four EPs (more music than a single but less music than an album) and gaining widespread popularity for their free-styling music. Dan Reynolds is the leader of the four-member band. He was first contemplating being in the FBI, but his father convinced him to become a musician. Wayne Sermonplays the guitar for the band. He graduated from Berklee College of Music in Boston. Daniel Platzman, also a graduate from Berklee, rocks out on the drums. Ben McKee, another Berklee graduate who actually started off playing violin, completes the band as bassist. All of the members have known each other since childhood and have been working in the band since at least 2008. They released their first EP, “Imagine Dragons”, in 2009.
They just put out their newest EP called “Continued Silence” on February 14th, Valentine’s Day. I learned about them a few weeks ago, and I just decided that with its wide spread popularity, I would check it out some more and write a review about it. The EP consists of six songs, all around three minutes in length. The most popular song by far on their extended play is “It’s Time.” This song has actually become number ten on the alternative rock billboard and number twenty one on the rock billboard. Its widespread success is probably due to its whimsical sound and due to its beat which stands out against other rock music. This is because the background for the music is composed of hand-clapping and foot-stomping and lap-slapping. It has a laid-back and chill tone (yes that is possible). And the lead singer has a really nice clean voice that I just love listening to. This song brings out the best in it. Here's the music video:
The song even has a great meaning that I know others can relate to. That is the mark of a great song. Here are the lyrics: LYRICS! Not just about clubbing, sex, and drinking as you can see. It’s about him finding his place in the world and having other people understand his place. He knows he needs to start really improving himself, but he’s scared of the road that lies before him. I don’t know if anyone else sees that, but I’m absolutely positive that it does have a deeper meaning, and I approve of that.
Another song on the EP that I really enjoyed is “Demons.” It’s a really beautiful, truthful song. It has a nice sound, and once again I must commend Dan Reynolds’s voice. This music was actually featured in a recent trailer for “The Words.” It’s amazing that they are gaining such recognition. With such well thought-out, meaningful lyrics and such a unique, new sound I can say that they truly deserve the fame. "The Words" trailer:
I really hope that they come to Florida where I live because I would love to see them live. From what I’ve heard, they are really good live. Also, because they aren’t very well known I’m sure that the tickets would be cheap. >D I suggest you check out some of their other songs like “Radioactive” and "On Top of the World.” They all are really fun, and they all captivate the listener. Also, everyone should be able to relate to the songs. So, while they may not have killer guitar playing or great drum work, they are definitely something to look at. Especially if you are a fan of the bands Fun!, the Beatles, the Shins and Arcade Fire. So enjoy!

Ever since I was a little kid I wanted to be a superhero. I wanted the whole shebang. I would wear tights and a mask and, of course, a cape, and I would “fly” around my house defeating the evils that it held.
Not me, but close enough.
Now that I’m older, I have accepted the fact that I will never suddenly be able to fly or be able to pick up a car or be able to talk to animals. Still, this hasn’t quelled my interest in superheroes. So, when the movie “The Avengers” was first announced, right after the premiere of the “Incredible Hulk" in 2008, my nerdtastic radar went flying. A movie in which most of my favorite superheroes united to kick evil’s ass? Was is true that there would be something as fantastic as this? Yes, and I went to see it yesterday, coming out of the theater with tears of joy at the justice that had been dealt.

The movie is about the superheroes the Hulk(Strength), Iron Man(Amazing Super Suit), Hawkeye(Archery), the Black Widow(Quick Fighting Skills), Thor(Strength and Powerful Hammer), and Captain America(Strength and Super Shield) coming together to defeat Loki, Thor’s adopted brother. Loki threatens to take over the world because he seeks revenge against his brother for being the better looking one for being the one to become a king and because he seeks power. The superheroes have a rough start together but eventually unite and destroy the darkness!
This movie was exceedingly interesting.
First off, it pays to have watched the other superhero movies because it basically starts up from where they left off. The movie constantly refers to what happened in previous ones so people who haven’t seen them have some trouble understanding the backstory and who the characters are. My friend had to keep asking me who was who and what each person did. While this may have been confusing for her, it still made it a better watch for me. I loved the continuity it brought to the movie because it kicked off from previous films. This made it so much more valid and realistic within the context of the story.
Thor VS. Iron Man FTW
Another thing I really enjoyed about this movie was that all of the super heroes fought each other. In most movies and comics, the superheroes really only fight the villains. I loved seeing all of the superheroes actually attack each other. I got to see how their strengths faced off against one another. Iron Man and Thor had an amazing battle. Hawkeye and the Black Widow fought against each other. The Hulk and Thor beat each other up. It was an amazing sight to behold. The casting was also really smart. It was great to see the same actors who played the heroes during their original movies reprise their roles in “The Avengers.” Aside from the Hulk who has changed from movie to movie, all of the original actors played their respective superheroes. Disney probably contracted them to return, which was a smart move on its part. Without the original actors, this movie might not have been possible to make. So bravo!
Mark Buffalo
The new man on the scene, Mark Buffalo, melded into his role quite perfectly. And the actors who play new characters like Hawkeye and the Black Widow did a great job. Scarlett Johansson played a really smexy and confident young woman, while also portraying the Black Widow's darker and more hesitant side. She captured the emotions playing through the Black Widow’s mind in a way that the audience could understand. Jeremy Renner (Hawkeye) had a smaller part than that of the other “Avengers,” so I can’t wait to see more of him in the sequel. I feel a special need to talk about Loki’s actor, Tom Hiddleston. He did a fantastic job of portraying his villain. He showed us Loki's insecurities and captured the facial expressions as well as the stance of the hesitant antagonist. Even the fact that Loki was chosen as the villain was a really good choice. He is the most realistic version of a villain because he shows their weak sides and conflicts. While the actors are key to this production, the special effects made it over the top. I watched the movie in regular, old 2D but I definitely recommend that everyone see it in 3D! This movie was geared to be seen in 3D because many objects came towards the screen, and the detail really can only be fully appreciated if seen with 3D glasses on.
The fight scenes in the movie were glorious and plentiful. I mentioned this before, but I think that around half or more of the movie is made up of fight scenes. Considering the movie is around two and a half hours long, this was a great feat. And even with all the fight scenes, there was still a solid plotline and story. Never was there a dull moment. The parts of the movie that weren’t action packed were filled with humor and dialogue, which added to the depth of the characters and purpose of the film.

Another thing that I liked about this movie is that the main conflict wasn’t of good versus evil, but rather of uniting people to fight the greater good. I mean, I would never imagine Tony Stark (Iron Man) agreeing to cooperate with anyone else. Nor would I have even believe that Thor (a God) would stoop so low as to agree to team up with these “mortals.” The movie brought up the concept of unifying to fight for the greater good, a concept that we have a lot of trouble with now-a-days. So while it may seem a little old school, this reminder is relevant to all people regardless of generation. In regard to the more minor conflicts, this movie does a fantastic job. The movie goes beyond the surface of the characters to the conflicts that exist within each and every one of them. It shows that while these heroes may be “super” on the surface, they aren’t really perfect and have their own little flaws. In the movie, they need to learn how to resolve their differences so that they can actually learn to fight together. Pretty cool stuff if you ask me. I have no favorite part of this movie because it was all magnificent. The special-effects, plotline, characters, and everything else were stunning and really worth seeing.

There’s nothing like the ear shattering music of a live rock concert. The music thrums inside of your soul and awakens your inner self from a deep, restless sleep. Soon, you rise up out of your seat and are swaying to the hypnotic sounds of strings and sticks. I’ve been to a few rock concerts: Linkin Park, Roger Waters, Aerosmith, and Iron Maiden. I’m not allowed to go to concerts on school nights so I missed out on the opportunity to see Rammstein, The Red Hot Chili Peppers, and countless other bands. Now, I might not be the biggest fan of Nickelback, but I still wanted to go to the concert. No true rock lover can ignore the heart of millions of people living on the same beat of the drum in the same second in the same space, but at the same time on entirely different planets.

The opening band that I saw was BUSH. BUSH is an alternative rock band formed in London in 1992 and named after the town the members used to live in. Since then, the band has had numerous singles on the billboard top 10. This was probably the best opening act that I have seen so far. Plus, Nickelback also got Seether and My Darkest Days to play, so that was really cool even though I missed them. BUSH played a lot of their hit songs like “Sound of the Winter” and “Glycerine”. Lead singer, Gavin Rossdale, had a slightly scratchy voice, but that fit the swift changing style of music. This music was more geared towards older people… like my mom who was head-banging up there with the rest of them. But I did enjoy their songs and recognized quite a few. The guitarist, Chris Traynor, had an amazing beard. And he shredded at the guitar. I wonder if he ever gets his beard knotted in the strings. 0.o That sounds so painful. After a few songs, the crowd had mostly trickled in. They all roared in unison to the music as BUSH played its last song. Many people were super drunk. The lights bled over a blend of their faces. They had come because the music was calling. And they wanted to see Nickelback. And so with that,
The room went dark. Blue lights shone out from the stage. A video began to play on the back of the stage. Then fire shot out from the stage, and Nickelback ran on stage to the bleeding screams of the crowd. Nickelback screamed a quick “hello”, and the fun began. While I’d much rather have been sitting in the back quietly observing and writing a lot like usual, there is something about rock that forces one to get out of her seat and break free from reserve. I flew out of my seat and sang along to the first song. Well, I didn’t actually know the first song, but it’s sort of a rule that when you are at a concert you need to sing a long even if you don’t know the lyrics. A blah blah blah will suffice. No one gives a damn cause no one can hear you. And besides that’s the concert spirit. Well, the sweaty, standing-up concert spirit. Chad Kroeger had a really deep voice. He also had a great, sparkly guitar. I wonder what make it was. *_* Anyways, the whole band worked well together, and they made many jokes and just had a fun time. I have no other word to describe the drummer than epic. I sat down for a few seconds and was just swaying my head to the music. I completely lost myself in the music. And when I woke up I realized that the whole time I had been swaying in my seat, the drummer, Daniel Adair was the only one playing.
I loved it when they played “Rockstar”. I remember when I was a child and used to roll around singing that song over and over again… In retrospect I was a strange child. But that song was just a complete blast to the past. I actually filmed a video of it, but I was screaming, I mean, singing so loud that I sort of ruined it. So you can enjoy a video without me singing.
They also played “How You Remind Me,” which was a song I listened to a lot in the past as well. I really enjoyed this band as a child. I guess their later stuff hadn’t really left much of an impact on me. They played some of their more recent songs at the concert, and I found it to be really good, just not for someone like me. I prefer the Killers and Mumford and Sons. Nevertheless, the show was actually quite fantastic. The music sounded like it would on the CD which is not too common now-a-days.
The guitar playing, the drums, the singing. Everything. Was amazing. They ripped up the stage from the very beginning. I’m not saying Nickelback equates to Rock Gods, but they expressed amazing talent and really kept pace with the audience. The crowd was a wide assortment of all different types of people, young and old. I would definitely recommend seeing this concert to everyone. There were songs they played that would relate to all types of people, like the few that I really enjoyed. Also, not only were our tickets cheap, but we also got to see four bands out of them. Plus, Nickelback played for an hour and half. Both in the middle of the stadium and on the stage to the far left of where I was sitting. I really love this band because they rock together, I have quite a few memories with its music, and that concert just brought me on a trip to the past. So go see their concert before it’s too late!

1.“Somebody That I Used to Know” by Gotye. Just by
looking at the title, I can already tell this is going to be good. Did anyone
notice the grammatical mistake? It should be “somebody who I used to know”, not
“that I used to know”! Clearly they need to fire their editors. The tune seems
really catchy from the beginning, but it’s lacking in variety. There is no
differentiation throughout the song. All together this song made me want to go
to sleep. Lead singer Gotye has a nice voice but he doesn’t vary it enough, or
maybe it just blends in with the song. It’s just a bland song. I mean there’s
no talent required to perform this song. It’s alright, I guess, but I don’t
understand how it’s number one. The chorus can give you ear worms though, so I
guess that’s why it’s so popular… but still, yawn.

2. “We are Young” by Fun. featuring Janelle Monáe.
Okay, this is a great indie, alternative song which is a nice change from the
pop that usually hits the top of the charts. It happens to be the first
Alternative Rock song on the billboard since Coldplay “Viva la Vida”, so way to
go Fun! It really does start off slow though, and stays mellow through the rest
of the song. The lead singer, Nate Ruess, has great variation in his voice and
a great flow. Although the lead singer may display musical talent, the music
itself is nothing extraordinary. The tune is catchy enough, however, and I love
the harmony part of this song. While it may not be the best song, it has a nice
homely sound and embodies the feelings of the average American teen. Their
other music is quite good, so you should check it out.
Fun! Really, fun!
3. “Payphone” by Maroon 5 featuring Wiz Khalifa.
Okay, so I’m going to admit that I haven’t heard this song at ALL on the radio!
I’m not surprised Maroon 5 is on the top of the charts because of their
widespread, growing popularity. However, the song seems sort of redundant. It
has a nice flow, but is almost identical to other songs and does not really
stand out from the rest of the pop songs out there. The song is quite
depressing. I guess break-up hate songs are popular now? It is nice to sing to
if you’ve just broken up with your ex, and the chorus is catchy (I seem to be
detecting a pattern in top songs). It also contains a lot of curse words.
Clearly Adam Levine had a tough break-up. Hope he feels less like sh*t. But I
actually like this song, because it’s god-damn hilarious. Still, Maroon 5 has had many much better songs which deserve to be on the billboard. Like Moves like Jagger. Coldplay should be on this chart! What's wrong with the world today?!

4.“Glad You Came” by The Wanted. This song stands
out from the rest. It reminds me of that of a boyband… an older boy band. It is
SUPER catchy, and I guess would be a great partying song. The song is very
suggestive. It’s basically about sex and drinking and all of those things this
generation loves. The lead singer, Max George, has a latino sounding voice even
though he is form England. His voice blends perfectly with the song, and is
almost sexy. 0.o. It’s an upbeat song, but not at all original. In my opinion,
their song “All Time Low” is way better and much more original. It seems like
they are distancing themselves from that type of music and going more
mainstream.
The Wanted... Obviously a boyband
5.“Call Me Maybe” by Carly Rae Jepson. Let me just
say, the fact that this song is number five says worlds about our generation. Maybe
I’m just biased against female singers, but I find her voice to be insanely
obnoxious during the chorus. Her lyrics are amateur. She’s basically talking
about how she’s going to give someone her number. Apparently she’s crazy for
doing that? Even though she made it clear earlier in the song that she thinks
he’s her soul mate. And on top of that, she missed him before she just met him.
And he can’t even stand to look at her? This song has so many problems. The
lyrics don’t even make sense. Does the world not listen to the lyrics of the
songs they are mindlessly singing? I think this song is fitting of our society.
But I think it’s a load of crap. The singing is fake and repetitive. The music
has the same ring to it as every other song. I can only think that this song
got on the top of the charts because… other girls feel this way about the boys
they like? I don’t know. If someone could explain this song, I would be much
obliged.
I have to admit Carly Rae Jepson is really gorgeous.
I would go through the top ten
songs but after looking at the list consisting of Nicki Minaj, Justin Bieber,
and One Direction, I think I might go insane if I continued listening to these
songs. I don’t think I’ll be listening to any more songs on the billboard
chart. This music isn’t right for me. It’s too fake, in my opinion. This was my
first time doing a music review so I thought I’d stick with something
widespread, but I’d rather listen to music I enjoy. I’ve learned my lesson
through trial and error. And so with that, tune in for my next blog post on the
Nickelback concert I will be going to!

When Legend of Korra finally aired on Sunday, April 22nd, I squirmed with anticipation. Legend of Korra is a run-off of Avatar: The Last Airbender series, an anime-like television series made in America. I really loved watching Avatar, and when I finished the final episode, I thought to myself, Nickelodeon needs to make another series!!!!!!!! And they did, creating the Legend of Korra which was initially supposed to be a miniseries but then expanded into an actual show. When I saw the first trailer for Legend of Korra, which depicted a water-bending girl riding on a large white dog through a city, my first thought was “YEAAHHHHHH!” And my second thought was “Hell YEAHHHHHH!” because what series is more deserving of a follow-up show than Avatar?
Did I mention that this story introduces metal bending as a new type of bending?
Although Korra doesn't have to learn it, it still plays a prominent role in the show.
I went online and watched the Legend of Korra trailer again, and I just couldn’t wait to see it! But of course, I did wait. And admittedly, I forgot the date it was supposed to air until I scanned the channels on the television and found that The Legend of Korra was just about to start. Lucky me! So I began to watch it. I caution you that this post will be full of spoilers from the first three episodes, so if you do not want to read them, stop now! In the first episode we meet Korra, the new avatar who is a headstrong, determined, feisty 17 year-old. We also meet Katara, Korra’s grandmother. Katara, unfortunately, informs us that almost everyone else from the old series has passed away. This episode also introduces the other main characters. One of them is Tenzin, Aang and Katara’s airbending son, who Korra ends up running away with to finally learn airbending, the only style of bending she has not yet mastered. In the city, Korra spots a group of guys bullying an older man with their bending skills. She promptly steps in to save the day, but ends up going too far and gets arrested. Tenzin picks her up from the government building and expresses his frustration towards her. He explains that she is not to go anywhere in the city and should stay on the island where he lives. She is supposed to learn how to airbend, but after noticing that the city has a Pro-bending arena, a place where benders fight each other as a sport, Korra forms other plans. After becoming frustrated with Tenzin and his “stupid” meditation and airbending ways, Korra sneaks out to the arena where she meets Bolin, a funny, delightful earthbending pro-bender. He invites her to watch the match even though his brother, Mako, frowns upon it. Mako seems serious, dark, and brooding which fits his personality seeing as he is a firebender. Both brothers are about to take part in a pro-bending match.
How to Pro-bend
You’d have to watch one to understand how it works. Mako and Bolin team up with a waterbender and enter, but the waterbender ends up not showing up for the second match. Mako and Bolin need another player, and Korra opts to play using her waterbending abilities. She fails miserably at dodging the opponents’ water, fire, and earthbending attacks because she is so clumsy and ends up making her team lose one round. When they start up again, Korra is pushed to her limits and almost causes the team to lose until she grasps the flowing, feather-like movement of air bending. She uses Tenzin’s teachings to bring the match around, and their team ends up winning the game. Tenzin, who is at first outraged to find that Korra had disobeyed his orders, races to get her from the arena. When he sees how she has learned the techniques he had been trying to teach her, he realizes he shouldn’t have been so hard on her. He lets her join Mako and Bolin’s team. While Mako, Korra, and Bolin practice their bending in the arena in the morning, the arena owner shares that they will need to pay him a large free to enter the tournament. Bolin volunteers to go do circus tricks on the street with Pabu, his pet fireferret, to earn money. While Bolin is out “making money” (one coin), he is greeted by a bending gang member who shows him a wad of cash and tells Bolin that if he he does a favor for the gang he will be paid with that money. Bolin wants to help out his friends and so he carelessly agrees to the service. When Mako gets home and calls for Bolin, no one replies. Mako thinks that Bolin went to visit Korra and goes to check for him at her house. When Korra says she never saw him, Mako explains that he thinks Bolin had probably gotten into trouble. To search for Bolin, Korra and Mako ride Korra’s dog, a creature named Naga who is also part panda apparently, around the city.

Korra and Mako end up finding out that their best lead is to go to an event called the “Uprising” which they found out about from a guy who preaches against benders. The man claims that the benders’ time should come to an end because all they do is oppress the people. He says that the tide will turn for both nonbenders and benders alike at the Uprising which is to take place that night. Korra and Mako attend the Uprising in disguise. They find thousands of people standing around a stage. On the stage is a caped and masked man who calls himself Amon. Amon tells the crowd that his family was killed by a firebender, and his face was permanently scarred by them. He says that the common people should get to take control of their own lives instead of having benders tell them what to do. He explains that even the Avatar who says she is fighting to bring balance to the world should get her powers taken away. Amon claims that he can get rid of a bender’s powers forever. He then has his minions lead the major bender gang lords onto the stage. One of them happens to be Bolin who I guess got taken instead of the real gang lord. One by one the gang lords fight Amon, and one by one they get their powers taken away. Mako tells Korra to provide a distraction by making the room fill with mist from tanks on the sides of the room. Korra does this and right before Bolin is about to have his powers taken away completely, the room fills with a cloud of mist, Amon disappears, and Mako grabs Bolin away. The three back together again fight off Amon’s followers, and escape on Napa. Amon knows they escaped and tells his people, “What better way to show people what I can do than by letting the Avatar share the message?” What a great start to a great show!!!

I really enjoy this show so far because it takes the concept of the previous Avatar series and revamps it with a new kickass character, cast, and storyline. I think this will end up being one of the only shows I actually watch on television, especially because of its opportune show time at eleven on Saturday mornings and also because of my general interest in the plot. I can’t wait to learn more about Amon in the show. I have a sinking suspicion that he is the young nonbender who Zuko went to live with temporarily when he was an outcast in the episode titled “Zuko Alone.” I usually fail at predicting things so this might not be very likely. Besides he’d be over seventy years old! But we’ll see. The other characters each have great, unique personalities, but at the same time remind me of the old faces from Avatar: The Last Airbender. This show has a new take on the avatar world and new voice actors to go with it. Janet Varney voices Korra, and while she doesn’t have any other voice acting experience, I can tell she’s a practiced actress and that she’ll be great for the role, especially since her voice really captures the hope in Korra’s heart. David Faustino, Mako’s voice actor, matched the character to the tee. He has this serious, morose tone that makes it clear from just hearing the voice that he is playing a dark, sullen teenager. He has already done other voice acting roles in shows like Scooby Doo, American Dad, and the Winx Club so this will certainly be interesting, and I know he will really bring a lot to the table because of his extensive experience. The last voice actor I will be reviewing is the man who voices the villian, Amon. He is the awe-inspiring Steve Blum who I look forward to seeing at anime conventions near me. He has voiced many anime characters, including Orochimaru from Naruto and Spike Spiegel in Cowboy Bebop. Check out the full list here. Anyways, he has the most voice acting experience, and I AM SUPER EXCITED that he has a part in this show. His voice just sends chills down my spine. He is the epitome of a villainous figure! Well his voice is. I mean look at him! He’s just so adorable and nonevil looking. He couldn’t harm a fly.
You think I'm scary??
All the other voice actors and actresses did fine jobs. I’d like to applaud the people who voiced Tenzin’s children. They were both adorable and hilarious. Another thing I need to point out is the animation. The anime-style drawing was very detailed, especially with regards to the city. The animators took a lot of time in their work, and it shows. I really enjoyed the mature style of art which, let’s face it, we don’t see much, if ever, in American television. Take Phineas and Ferb and Spongebob for an example. Their animation styles have no detail at all. The details and beauty of the colors of this show are such a high point in my mind. The different shades and hues add a whole new experience and depth to the series. It is really a beauty to observe. And those reasons among many others are why I am sitting in front of my television at 9:35 A.M. itching for the next Avatar episode to come on at 11. Legend of Korra is the highlight of my cartoon Saturday, and I am really thankful that Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko (the creators and producers of Avatar: The Last Airbender) decided to create another show! It is such an enticing find.

Let the Hunger Games begin! And may the odds be EVER in your favor.
Wouldn’t it be cool to participate in the Hunger Games? Well… except for the part when everyone dies. But could you imagine the thrill of being out in the wilderness, surviving off of your own cunning wit and skill? All virtually straight from your living room? If you haven’t, I have. And I have compiled a list of real Hunger Games that will test your skill, knowledge, and survival abilities on the computer, iPhone, and in real life. I’ll be ranking them from best to worst in each category, so join me as we uncover the real(free) games that for us could recreate the Hunger Games.
Hunger Games: Computer Games: (Links will be provided at the end of the post)
1.The Hunger Games Adventures: Beta!This came in first place because overall it was the best. It was the
easiest to understand how to play. Additionally, it is the most interactive,
most addictive, and longest game. While it still needs a lot of improvement, it
maintains the bases for a great Facebook game, resembling Sims Social,
Frontierville, and other games of the sort. I rather enjoyed the music. And the
game had a plotline. For example, Katniss taught me how to use a bow and arrow.
I went to the Hob to get soup in exchange for a bird I had killed. I went to
Peeta to get bread for Katniss. While some items cost Facebook money to
buy, a lot of stuff was available for free. The characters look as ugly as your
uncle, but other traits made up for it. The game was both easy to understand
and to play. It fit the Hunger Games story line, and you advance by completing
chapters filled with different quests. All together, it is a fascinating
Facebook game that models the book. While I do not highly recommend it, I feel
that you should check it out sometime because it isn't all that bad.

2.Trial by Fire. This game has two parts. Trial by Fire and Tribute Trials.
Trial by Fire is interesting because it is a simulator of the actual Hunger
Games. You are asked questions and given a certain amount of time to answer
them. Based on your answer you either advance in the game or die. I made it
quite far before getting killed by my supposed ally. So much for befriending
people and saving their lives. Anyway, I invite you to test your luck in this
game. Tribute Trials starts off by showing you a lot of pictures. When you click
on a picture, you are then asked a “what would you do?” question. It tells you
what skill you are conveying when you answer the question. At the end, it tells
you what you did well and what you need to work on. While I’d recommend playing
Trial by Fire, Tribute Trials is very long and not as interesting. Still, they
both had really dramatic music and were really well made.
This is what I got for saving someones life!.
3. Hunger Games- The Game. This game places last because it sucks. First, you
have to sit through a commercial before you can even begin playing. Once the
commercial is over, you can’t even play the game. I have tried repeatedly to
get past the Cornucopia and have failed every time! The best part of this was
the stupid drum music. I don’t understand this game, and it is poorly made. All
together it is a fail. Not recommended at all. It is a complete waste of time.
Unless you guess the trick. PS. That was not a challenge. Or was it?

That about wraps it up for the Hunger Games as far as computer games go. There
aren’t many out there yet, but I expect more to be made in the future.

Run, Katniss, Run!
1.The Hunger Games: Girl on Fire. This is by far one of my favorite games. At
first, I was a little bit confused seeing as they don’t provide directions as
to how to play, but it was actually quite simple. Basically, the game consists
of Katniss running by trees. She can either run on the ground or on the trees.
You can make her switch by dragging your finger across the screen. The whole
time you are running, Tracker Jackers will try to kill you. You can tap your
finger on a tracker jacker to have Katniss shoot an arrow at it. Slowly, it
will progress from Tracker Jackers trying to sting to trying to shoot you with
their poison to wearing shields and trying to shoot you. Although it’s a simple
game, the graphics are good, and like any other great iPhone game, it provides
for hours of pointless entertainment. I recommend this game for any iPhone/iPod
touch game lover. It won’t disappoint.
This was one of the easier questions!
2. Ultimate Trivia: The Hunger Games. This trivia game tests your knowledge on
both the book and movie. It asks about events that happen in the book and who
played whom in the movie. This is really only for people who are at least avid
fans. If you answer enough questions correctly on easy, you can move on to
medium and then hard. This game is not for the weak minded. It is fun though,
and I recommend it because if you read the books, you get to see how much you
really know of them and can see if you are a true fan, which I clearly am not
with a score of 15/20 on easy.
3. Hunger Games: The Hunt. This is the worst iPhone Hunger Games game simply
because it doesn’t offer enough. It functions as a hidden object game in which
you travel to the different places in the Hunger Games to find objects that
have to do with the book. The reason I ranked this so low was not only because
of the obnoxious music, but also because it only offers one level for free. It
doesn’t give you unlimited amounts of hints, so you can easily not be able to
advance, and it’s just really hard to identify any of the objects without
seeing what they look like first. My favorite games are Hidden Objects games,
and this was one of the first ones I hated. I would never recommend this to
anyone because it sucks.
Can you find the number 13?
Now that we’ve explored the realm of Hunger Games apps, we will take a look
into the most interesting games you will ever play, and also the most
challenging ones. You can play these games in real life. Not on the computer
and not on the phone, but in real life. These games also don’t involve killing
other people, which is also a plus side. One being more epic; the other being
more practical. Let us begin. Real-life Games:
1. My friend Rachel found this first idea when she watched a video from the
Vlog Brothers. It involves playing Hungry Hippos and eating cookies. But
there’s a catch. Half of the cookies you make by putting in disgusting food
like mushrooms and turkey. The other half you put in delicious foods in like
Gushers and marshmallows. Then after they’re done baking in the oven, you put
the bad cookies on a plate labeled bad and the good cookies on a plate labeled
good. When you’re done, you play Hungry Hungry Hippos. The losers have to close
their eyes and choose a bad cookie. The winners get to choose good cookies. I
played this game with my friends, and it was a blast. Maybe that was because I
won every single time though. Haha. Regardless you should still try this game
out with your friends. Watch the video below to get a better understanding of
how it’s done. This should be the Hunger Games movie trailer. HAHA.

2.I saved the best for last with this one. This
idea comes fromHarrison
Miller, a Senior in high school who will be attending college at Yale in
the fall. He will be attempting to create a real life simulation of the Hunger
Games. I can’t say much about this because it’s top secret, but basically it
will be the closest thing to the real Hunger Games as possible. There will be
twenty-four tributes, a cornucopia, and weapons. As I promised, no one would
die, but this game will be intense. To become a tribute you have to be in shape
and have to know your way around the wilderness. . Harrison explains, “This
stuff is really serious. Like in order to qualify as a tribute, you have to
have wilderness survival skills. I mean, the game makers even considered using
poison ivy at one point!” It is truly amazing stuff if I do say so myself.
While Harrison shares that his game will be unique to Yale, it just goes to
show that with a bit of creativity and imagination you can come up with a great
game too. In Spring I’ll be doing a full report on the game during which all
secrets will be revealed.
